notes on Pulakesin


  • Pulakesin I is viewed as the genuine originator of the administration and ruled (c. Advertisement 535-66) from the slope post of Vatapi. An engraving on a bolder of the Badami stronghold depicts how it was strengthened in Saka 465 (advertisement 543-44). 

  • As indicated by the Aihole engraving, he was the "spouse of the maid, viz., the city of Vatapi, the capital of the Chalukyas". 

  • It is trusted that his territory comprised of a few locale and that, being a Brahman; he commended his developing riches by performing religious ceremonies like Agnichayana, Vajapeya and Aswamedha. 

  • Records de­scribe him too versed in Manusmriti and the legends, Ramayana and Mahabharata. His main ruler was Durlabhamahadevi.
